I) Practice describing the picture: Students daydreaming in Class (Use the documents:VOCAB SCHOOL CHORES to help you with vocabulary- refer to the section about how to describe the bubbles using different tenses. See the examples given and try to use similar constructions!
(Remember to follow the model to on the document "Outline & Model-READ OVER IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!)
Here is a quick overview in order of how you should describe:
A-General Description (who, what, where, when)
B-Specific Description:
-physical-hair, eyes, looks, clothes
C-Emotional description (how you think condition/feelings/state is):

D-Use some advanced structures with different tenses: preterite/imperfect together

It may be helpful to write out a description. If you want to write and send I'll look over it.

Even more important than writing is to practice describing aloud as much as you can to improve your fluency and pronunciation. Record yourself describing the picture for 3 minutes and listen to yourself. You can send me a recording and I can give you feedback on what to improve. Be prepared on Monday to describe the picture to a classmate for 3 minutes using a recorder.)

The rest of the homework below is optional. You should complete it when you can. Finishing it can give you a good base, then you can focus on your descriptions of the pictures.

1) Oral Indivdual Instructions: Por Favor Lee
2)Oral Individual Outline model: Read the outline, Then read the model for the picture in your packet (Students and teachers in the cafeteria). This will give you an idea of what you could say for the highest level!
3) Questions Oral Individual: answer the questions under the following headings: Trabajo Escrito, El Individuo y La Sociedad (familia), y La Educación Orally or Written or both if you want extra practice. Record your answers and send to me and I'll listen and give you feedback. You can cut and paste file to google docs and write answers, then I will written answers. Or write them on paper and I'll do only a quick check in class.
4) Verb Overview: Fill out the first 4 columns of all the verbs (Read the instructions at the top PLEASE): Use the Verb Wheel that I gave you to find the correct conjugations for Irregulars if needed. Memorize the forms so that you can more easily move from different tenses in speaking.

The purpose of writing this together was to help you go through the process of writing one together so you could see the process you will need to go through to plan and write your own. We planned, wrote, analyzed, changed and rewrote to come up with a good final product. You should do this as well before you write the real Trabajo Escrito in February after Chinese New Year. Here is a timeline for what you will need to do:

1) BEFORE WINTER break-give me your topic. Lo siento-I am not allowed to let you choose the same topic as someone else. Here is what I have so far (included ideas to guide you!):
Joie de Vie: Tomb Sweeping Day/Chinese Worship of Ancestors VS Day of the Dead (If you can find some good articles on Tomb Sweeping Day/Chinese Ancestor worship, this would be a really good topic! You would have to change the focus a bit from the paper we wrote-can't copy directly. Can use the same sources we used for Day of the Dead. Would take some thought.)

Carlos: Films from Spain VS Films from UK (try to narrow focus-some ideas: A fantasy Film in UK vs a Fantasy Film in Spain -e.g...you could compare Pans Labyrinth with Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis adapted to a movie. Both are stories of good vs evil. Both appear to be movies for children but there are deeper messages for adults. They have different endings/messages..why? Pans Labyryth turns out to be confusing/shocking/perhaps not appropriate for children because it has a somewhat tragic ending. What historical events/cultural views/beliefs influenced the stories & endings? How do cultural artistic forms/genres such as surrealism/realism influence the story of Pans Labyryth?... would need to do a bit of research but could be interesting. Remember you only need 300 words so don't need to go into too much detail. Or you could compare Pans Labyrinth with the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales & Ancient GermanFolklore. (the orignals were quite grim) You could compare the recent movie Snow White with Charlize Theron (a Grimm Fairy Tale) to Pans Labyrinth?? Throwing out ideas for you...

2) Over winter break find articles on your topic. Send me the articles/links to see if they are appropriate. Read the articles underlining and annotating relevant info.

3) After Mock Exams: Week of January 20th fill out graphic organiser very carefully and thoughtfully. Your graphic organiser will be checked to see if your ideas and organisation are logical and sound.

4) During Week of Jan 27th and/or during Chinese New Year: Jan 30-Feb.5th: Using your graphic organiser to guide you-You will write a practice "Trabajo Escrito". AFTER you write it, you may want to get a Spanish speaker/or someone who knows Spanish to check over it for accuracy and understanding of message. Remember-it should be your own work. Memorize how you wrote it so you are prepared to write the real thing.

5) Write "Trabajo Escrito" in Class on 13th February for 2 hours. Periods 5, 6 & lunchtime (11:10-1:10) Will need to eat something before or eat a late lunch.

PREPARA PARA TU DIA DE LOS MUERTOS PRESENTACION Y ALTAR:
1) Haz las correcciones de la biografía de Picasso/Frida/Salvador Dali en google docs.-lee los comentarios y corrige!!
2) Planifica la decoración de tu altar para tu persona muerta. Escribe una descripción del altar. (para un ejemplo hay que ver la descripción del altar de Selena-see file below-Biography famous person)
3) Tienes que preparar la decoración de tu altar. Solo te voy a dar 10 minutos al principio de la clase para preparar para la presentación.
4) Tienes que dividir las partes de tu presentación entre los dos y memorizar. (you can't read your biography-you can only use notes with key words and phrases...not complete sentences) Think of some kind of ritual/ceremony...eg momento de silencio, ver un video corto, una canción, etc..)

So that you can focus on the above, the only other homework that I'm giving you is memorize the vocab from Unit 4 Lesson 1 of Avancemos to prepare for a short assessment Thursday on Unit 4 Lesson 1 on vocab and preterite vs imperfect. REQUIRED: Go to conjuguemos Choose book vocab-Avancemos 2: Unit 4-1. You must do 70 tries-record and send. Besides conjuguemos, for further revision go to quizlet and download flashcards to your phone: Avancemos 2 Unidad 4 Lección 1-go through flashcards on your phone.

1) En parejas, redacta (edit) tu biografia sobre la persona famosa en "google docs"-hay que ver los comentarios que yo escribí. 2) Planica con tu compañero/a- decide how to decorate your altar and bring the materials next class. You will have 10 minutes at the end of class to decorate the altar and plan. You will then need to write a description of the altar (see the Selena model). El próximo martes el 26 de noviembre you will have to do a "Dia de los muertos" altar presentation telling about the biograhy and describing the altar. You must divide the work up between the two of you. You cannot read a script, but you can look at brief notes as in the example presentation I gave you today. You will be graded on your written biography and on your oral presentation.
